Excess foam after washing and liquid left in the fabric-softener compartment need separate checks. For foam, start with the detergent type, dose, and automatic-dosing settings. For the softener compartment, check the MAX line, residue, and cap assembly. Adding more detergent or softener can make the cause harder to identify.

Identify what remains and where
“Detergent is left behind” can describe several problems. Is there excessive foam in the drum, foam on the laundry after rinsing, or liquid pooled in the softener compartment? Note when it appears during the cycle as well as where it is.
Do not assume all liquid in the softener compartment is softener based on its color. The manufacturer’s guidance describes residual water remaining when a cap has not been reinstalled correctly after cleaning. Conversely, an empty compartment at the end does not prove correct dispensing: the softener may have entered too early.
Check the timing, settings, and amount used, rather than only whether liquid is present afterward.
For excessive foam, read the detergent label first
For a front-loading washer, check that the detergent is labeled as suitable for that machine type. Samsung’s Korean guidance distinguishes front-loader detergent from detergent for conventional washers, which can produce more foam. If you are still using a product from a previous machine, check its suitability against your current model’s instructions.
Use the detergent label’s recommended dose as your starting point. A habitual capful is not necessarily the right amount for every load. Product concentration and laundry quantity can change the required dose. Read the directions for the actual load instead of applying one volume to every washer.
With automatic dosing, check the machine’s dose and concentration settings as well as how much you put in its reservoir. If you changed detergent, the settings may still reflect the previous product. When softener enters too early or remains in the drawer
Do not fill the softener compartment beyond its MAX line. Overfilling can cause softener to enter before the intended stage. The manufacturer’s guidance also identifies liquid sloshing when the drawer is slammed shut as a possible cause of early dispensing, so close it gently.
If softener does not dispense properly, check for thick liquid or deposits that have hardened over time. Automatic and manual dispenser drawers differ. Do not pull yours apart in the same way as a different model shown in a video.

This table identifies starting points for inspection. It cannot, on its own, establish whether the appliance has a fault.
Clean only the user-removable dispenser parts
Remove only parts that your model’s manual identifies as user-removable. LG explains that dispenser residue can obstruct water flow and recommends cleaning with lukewarm water and a soft brush or cloth. Afterward, check that the softener cap and any other removed parts are correctly back in place.
Do not pour in hot water or force apart internal components to remove visible residue. Do not extend cleaning into electrical or water-supply components behind the dispenser. Follow the detergent and appliance manufacturers’ directions instead of inventing dilution ratios or mixing cleaning products.
If a fixed section appears blocked or a part will not come out easily, stop forcing it and check the model-specific instructions again.
Record the details if the problem returns
Make a note of the detergent type and amount, automatic-dosing settings, selected program, and when the symptom appears. Have the washer’s model number ready. Photos from before and after cleaning can help support staff understand what changed.
If the symptom continues after checking the dose, assembly, and cleaning procedure against the manual, ask the manufacturer about an inspection. The same applies if you cannot tell whether you are seeing normal residual water or failed dispensing. Identify which part of the process is going wrong before switching products or increasing the amount.
